Basa Fish Fry (masala / Indian-style)

About the Dish

When it comes to comfort food with bold Indian flavors, Basa Fish Fry (masala / Indian-style) is a timeless choice. Basa fish, with its soft texture and mild flavor, is perfect for absorbing spices and turning into a crispy, golden treat. This basa recipe highlights the best of Indian cooking—simple ingredients, quick preparation, and a result that’s irresistibly delicious.

The marinade of chili powder, turmeric, coriander, and garam masala creates a spicy and aromatic coating, while a dusting of rice flour or semolina ensures crunch in every bite. Shallow frying keeps it lighter than deep-fried versions but still delivers that satisfying crispness. This dish is extremely versatile—it can be served as a starter with onion rings, paired with rice and dal as part of a wholesome meal, or enjoyed on its own with chutney. Easy to prepare yet bursting with flavor, it’s no surprise this recipe is loved across Indian homes.
